A Brief Moment

Today I came across an old photo of mine on my Flickr account from 2012 simply entitled “The New Voice Singing An Old Song” it is of a lone tree on riverside that cast a shadow or silhouette rather against the setting sun. I distinctly remember taking this photo it was on one of my walks through riverside that I use to indulge quite frequently in my younger days and running across this photo I found myself filled with a deep peace and not to mention a deep nostalgia for times that while past still hold a place in my heart and this feeling was no doubt aided by my phone playing a cello and harp rendition of Claude Debussy's haunting piece called “Reverie”. I tell you I was in heaven if only for a brief moment.

Uncertain Possibility or Scultping in Water Part 1

Much of what I have photographed throughout the years centers mainly on 2 things people and water. Later on for future blog posts we will get to my interactions with people but for now let us focus on the later of those 2 subjects. My initial photography adventures begin with me attempting to capture the beauty and mystery of water and this has found itself to be my most photographed and some would say my most interesting subject. Photographing water for me is something that I have yet to grow tired of and hopefully it shall remain that way for some time to come. Consider this blog post a series of or possibly even a future book about the many faces of water simply entitled “Sculpting in Water”

From The Beginning

My journey as a photographer began in 2008 when I received a camera the previous Christmas a brand new HP Photosmart M540 point and shoot and as soon as I received it I began snapping photos mainly self-portraits all while wearing Victorian Era clothing. My hair was a bit longer than, my body a really skinny and now upon looking back on these photos I see that I imagined myself as kind of a would be romantic poet or Victorian aesthete it was indeed a more simpler time but in many ways I am glad that I am not that age anymore not that I regretted that period in my life or anything like that but as I have gotten older I find myself more in control of my emotions and more disciplined if you will not so willing to make a mountain out of a mole hill as they say. However, this was none the less an interesting time and the photos I took then seem to show a fresh faced innocence. It is also worth noting that around this time that I began experimenting with what I termed “low-budget” fine art photos done in the style of my first photographic inspiration F. Holland Day which are showcased towards the bottom.

So without further adieu here is the beginning

Finding One's Nature

As I have gotten older I find myself drawn more and more to rural surroundings I still love the city life mind you but I feel that from time to time I need to return to a more forest type setting and recharge. The Japanese refer to this as “forest bathing” and I find that it not only helps me to rest and recharge but that it also helps me to reconnect better with my photography.
